High Court Admits 68 WhatsApp Messages Between Richard Jakpa and Attorney-General as Evidence
The High Court in Accra has accepted 68 WhatsApp messages exchanged between businessman Richard Jakpa and Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame as evidence.

Jakpa, currently on trial alongside Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, was questioned by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa regarding these messages.
During cross-examination, DPP Obuobisa suggested that Jakpa withheld certain messages because he feared they would reveal numerous attempts to contact the Attorney-General with minimal response from Godfred Dame.
She insinuated that Jakpa might have wanted to avoid demonstrating the extent of his persistence in reaching out to the A-G. Jakpa denied this suggestion, stating that even if all deleted text messages and voice calls were considered, they would still not add up to the 68 messages claimed. He clarified that text messages and voice calls are distinct forms of communication.

Additionally, the DPP raised concerns about Jakpa’s request for a private meeting with the A-G, implying that he used his connection with Justice Kulendi to arrange the meeting.
Jakpa rejected this assertion, affirming that his message requesting the meeting did not mention Justice Kulendi at all.
He asserted that it was the Attorney-General who involved Justice Kulendi in organizing the private meeting.
The admission of these WhatsApp messages into evidence marks a significant development in the ongoing trial involving Richard Jakpa and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, providing insight into their communications with the Attorney-General and potentially influencing the legal proceedings.
