Bawumia Unveils Roadmap for Ho’s Metropolitan Status in 2024

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that the Ho Municipality is set to be upgraded to metropolitan status by the end of this year. During a campaign tour in the Volta Region last Tuesday, Bawumia announced that preparations were well underway, with the Minister of Local Government expected to confirm the upgrade soon.

The announcement came as Dr. Bawumia inaugurated a newly constructed office building for the Ho Municipal Assembly, a GH¢10 million project designed to centralize government services and accommodate various decentralized departments.

Dr. Bawumia explained that Ho’s expanding infrastructure and growing population make it a prime candidate for metropolitan status, which would further boost the region’s development. He emphasized the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) commitment to equitable development across all regions of Ghana, irrespective of ethnic or religious backgrounds. Highlighting his position as the NPP’s presidential candidate, he dismissed claims that the party was ethnically exclusive, underscoring its commitment to national unity and progress.

In his speech, the Vice President touted the NPP’s achievements in infrastructure over the past eight years, noting improvements in roads, healthcare facilities, schools, and markets. He urged voters to renew the NPP’s mandate to ensure the continuity of these developments.

Ho boasts eight tertiary institutions, including the University of Health and Allied Sciences and the Ho Technical University, along with several health facilities, such as a 500-bed teaching hospital. The area is also rich in tourism, agriculture, and aviation potential, which local leaders, including the Paramount Chief of Takla, Togbe Ayim Adzokoto II, urged the government to develop to create more job opportunities for the youth.

Ho’s new metropolitan status, along with infrastructural improvements, promises to enhance the municipality’s role in national development. Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence that this upgrade will be a key driver of growth for the region.
