In a recent Instagram post Don Jazzy disclose Mavin Records partnership with Universal Music Group.

He stated ” I’m thrilled to announce that Mavin Records has partnered with Universal Music Group, making a new chapter in our journey. This partnership is a milestone that recognises our collective talent and hard work, aiming to elevate African Music on global stage”

Following Mavin Records’ quest for outside funding, the acquisition by UMG—which is estimated to be worth between $125 million and $200 million

Mavin, which features musicians like Crayon and Ayra Starr, has greatly aided in the international rise of Afrobeats. Mavin, under the direction of COO Tega Oghenejobo and creator Don Jazzy, retains independence in talent development and strategy despite the investment. Initiatives like the Artist Academy and an executive leadership programme are part of the label’s aim. The collaboration capitalises on Africa’s increasing recorded music consumption and is in line with Mavin’s aspirations for worldwide expansion. The CEO of UMG, Lucian Grainge, is excited about the partnership and highlights Mavin’s contribution to the international success of Afrobeats. Kupanda Capital is still a minority investor, notwithstanding TPG’s withdrawal. Legal counsel was given by Bowmans, Shot, Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie, and Freshfields.
