IMANI PULSE report: NPP gains momentum with positive social media sentiments. Explore the latest trends shaping political discourse.

IMANI’s PULSE analysis reveals that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has gained a lead in positive sentiment on social media. The NDC’s positive sentiment decreased slightly, while the NPP’s increased marginally.

Negative sentiment for both parties significantly dropped, with the NPP experiencing a larger decrease. Factors contributing to this decline in negativity warrant further analysis, possibly due to proactive efforts by social media teams to promote positive content. Notably, negative sentiment surged after Hajia Ayamba’s quote regarding Dr. Bawumia, leading to significant social media engagement favoring candidate Mahama. Various events, such as the One Student One Tablet initiative and Dr. Bawumia’s engagement with traders, sparked positive mentions for both candidates. Additionally, a dance challenge for Mahama and controversial remarks by Dr. Kwesi Ahwoi fueled engagement. This month’s analysis offers a detailed comparison of metrics, reflecting increased responsiveness to party-related events and paving the way for future sentiment analyses on specific issues.

“There was a spike in mentions due to fulfillment of Bawumia’s promise of 1 student one Tablet generating buzz on TikTok with hashtags #itispossible, #Boldsolutionsforthefuture and #Bawumia2024.

“Another spike in mentions due to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 NPP Presidential Candidate, engaging with traders in Sunyani, Bono Region, alongside popular hashtags #Bawumia2024 and #itispossible. The mentions that had the most extensive reach came from: tiktok.com (authors: officialutvghana), youtube.com (authors: Magraheb TV).

“For Candidate Mahama, on March 07, there was a walk and a dance challenge that led to massive engagement to the tune of around 243,000. Additionally, a controversial event around the pronouncements of Dr. Kwesi Ahwoi, one of the main elders of the NDC party, caused a spike in mentions on the 25th of March 2024.”
