Foster Nyarko, a 36-year-old job seeker, was given a prison sentence for stealing a cell phone from the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) headquarters in Accra. Nyarko was given a two-year jail sentence after being found guilty on his own plea by the Accra court, which was presided over by Her Worship Basilia Adjei-Tawiah.

Nyarko was convicted of breaking into the CHRAJ building and taking a Samsung A54 5G phone, which was worth GH₵4,999. Celis-Jane Nyadroh, a Principal Administrator at CHRAJ Headquarters, owned the device.

During the court hearing, Nyarko asked for leniency, promising never to engage in such an act again. However, the judge sentenced him to 13 months imprisonment for unlawful entrance and two years for stealing, with both sentences to run consecutively.

Nyarko claimed to be following up on a job application at the Human Resource Department when he approached the CHRAJ front desk on October 23, 2024, according to the case, which was presented by Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah. After gaining entry to the first level, he went inside Nyadroh’s office while she wasn’t there, took the cell phone, and fled the building without anybody noticing.

The following day, the theft was reported to Accra’s Ministries Police Station. At the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Nyarko attempted a similar theft but was not caught until January 30, 2025. He was taken into custody by the institution’s security staff, which prompted more inquiries.

When the authorities received CCTV footage from the woman and her witnesses, it became clear that Nyarko was guilty. Nyarko’s case was strengthened by the video, which unequivocally showed him snatching the office phone. After being returned to the location of the crime on January 31, 2025, Nyarko admitted to the theft.

People committing similar offenses are strongly cautioned by Nyarko’s sentence. The prompt response by the police, the judiciary, and CHRAJ officials emphasizes how crucial security and law enforcement are in combating workplace theft.

In order to stop theft and unwanted access, this instance emphasizes the necessity of tighter implementation of security procedures and heightened awareness in public organizations. When interacting with institutions, officials advise visitors and job seekers to behave honorably and in accordance with moral principles.
