John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda, two former players, have been designated assistant coaches by Black Stars coach Otto Addo, along with Joseph Laumann.
This comes after Addo was appointed, who will return in 2022 after serving as the team’s temporary manager.
With a UEFA pro licence and an extensive playing career spanning Germany, Vietnam, and Cyprus, Joseph Laumann adds a wealth of expertise to the coaching staff. He has coached several respectable teams in the English Championship, including Standard Liege, VfL Bochum, and Barnsley.
John Paintsil brings both playing and coaching expertise to the table with 89 caps for the national squad. Paintsil’s experience playing for teams such as Fulham, West Ham United, and Kaizer Chiefs makes his understanding of the game crucial.
His stint as a coach at Kaizer Chiefs and the fact that he holds a CAF Licence B further demonstrate his suitability for this position.
Famous for his skill in goalkeeping, Fatawu Dauda played 23 times for Ghana and was a mainstay of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Dauda, a former custodian for clubs like Voradep, Okwahu United, AshantiGold, and Orlando Pirates, is expected to contribute valuable insights to the team’s defensive qualities.
Otto Addo’s hiring comes after Chris Hughton’s departure. Hughton’s tenure was marred by underwhelming outcomes, including managing one of Ghana’s poorest Africa Cup of Nations campaigns in Ivory Coast.
With Otto Addo back in charge, the Black Stars embark on a new chapter, expanding on his prior leadership during the 2022 World Cup
