Justina Nelson Appointed Acting CEO of MIIF by President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Justina Nelson as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF).

Her appointment takes immediate effect, following the revocation of Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng’s position as CEO less than 24 hours earlier.

Justina Nelson currently serves as a Group Head at Zenith Bank, where she oversees the energy and commercial banking sectors. She brings a wealth of experience from both the mining and finance industries, having held several senior positions in public and private institutions.

The announcement of her appointment was made in a statement from the Presidency, citing constitutional backing under Article 195 (1) and Section 21 (2) of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) Act, 2018 (Act 978).

Nelson’s educational background includes a Master of Laws in Corporate and Commercial Law, an MBA in Marketing, a Bachelor of Laws (Hons), and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Management and Psychology. Her qualifications and expertise position her to lead the MIIF effectively and contribute to its mission of managing and optimizing the country’s mineral wealth.

Edward Koranteng’s Dismissal

On January 13, 2025, the President revoked Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng’s appointment through a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama. The letter directed Koranteng to hand over his responsibilities to Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the government’s representative at the Ministry of Finance. Dr. Forson will oversee the fund’s operations until a substantive CEO is named.

This leadership change at MIIF underscores the President’s commitment to ensuring efficient management of Ghana’s mineral resources.
