In response to claims that veteran goalie Patrick Matasi is implicated in match-fixing, the Kenya Football Federation (FKF) has opened an official investigation. Matasi, 37, has played for Kenya in more than 30 international games and is presently a member of Kakamega Homeboyz, a team in the Kenyan Premier League. He last played for the Harambee Stars in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in October 2025.

Recently, a video purportedly showing Matasi discussing plans to sway the result of a league game went viral. Despite the fact that the BBC has not confirmed the veracity of the video, the allegations have raised grave worries among football fans.

Speaking on the matter, Homeboyz owner Cleophas Shimanyula revealed that he had confronted Matasi about the video. “He was just as shocked as we were. He insists that he has no knowledge of any match-fixing schemes,” Shimanyula stated in an interview with BBC Sport Africa.

The public has been persuaded by the FKF that it is dedicated to maintaining Kenyan football’s integrity. To guarantee an open investigation, it will collaborate with FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and other pertinent institutions. In addition to restating its zero-tolerance policy on match manipulation, the federation promised to take necessary action in the event that misconduct is discovered.

To maintain fairness, the FKF’s investigation will adhere to stringent anti-match manipulation guidelines established by FIFA. Kakamega Homeboyz, meanwhile, has backed Matasi, praising his most recent performances.

“He has kept three clean sheets since joining us, and we have found no evidence of misconduct,” Shimanyula added.

The club owner also urged anyone with credible evidence to come forward and assist with the investigation. “We oppose match-fixing in all forms. If anyone has proof against Matasi, they should present it to the relevant authorities,” he stated.

The FKF has called for complete confidentiality for whistleblowers and assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted before any disciplinary actions are taken.
