Kenyan President Ruto Dissolves Cabinet
In a significant political shake-up, Kenyan President William Ruto has dissolved his Cabinet, dismissing all Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney General.
This decision does not affect Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs. The Deputy President’s office also remains unaffected.
President Ruto announced that Principal Secretaries will oversee the Ministries’ affairs until a new cabinet is appointed.
This interim period will see ministry accounting officers and other officials take charge of operations to ensure government functions continue smoothly.
“I will immediately engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations,” Ruto stated, outlining his plan to form a broad-based government. His goal is to accelerate the implementation of radical programmes aimed at addressing Kenya‘s debt burden, raising domestic resources, expanding job opportunities, and eliminating governmental inefficiencies and corruption.
Ruto emphasized that these efforts would make the government leaner, more effective, and more efficient. This sweeping move follows a prior reshuffle in October 2023, which affected at least eight ministries.
The President’s latest action underscores his commitment to restructuring the government to better tackle the country’s pressing issues and enhance overall governance. Further details and additional measures are expected to be announced in due course.
