King Promise Wins Artiste of the Year at TGMA 2025, Stonebwoy Reacts

On Saturday, May 10, 2025, the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre hosted the 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), which was a spectacular event. The night’s high point was King Promise’s historic win as Artiste of the Year, which elevated him to the status of one of Ghanaian music’s greatest stars. Fellow musicians showered the award-winning singer-songwriter with praise, including 2024 Artiste of the Year Stonebwoy, who publicly congratulated him in an emotional message on X (previously Twitter). Stonebwoy penned, “Congratulations @IamKingPromise on your win and on your debut entry into the league of AOTY winners. You’re welcome.”

This accolade followed a fiercely competitive year in which King Promise faced off against major players in the business, including Stonebwoy, Joe Mettle, King Paluta, Black Sherif, Team Eternity, and Kwaku Smoke. King Promise won four major honors in a remarkable victory: Album of the Year for his effort True to Self, Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste, Afropop Song of the Year for Paris, and Artiste of the Year. Stonebwoy also had a successful night, winning awards for Best Music Video of the Year, Best Reggae/Dancehall Artiste, and Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year with Psalm 23. After missing the top prize in 2024, King Promise’s victory was particularly sweet. With ten nominations, he came back stronger than before, demonstrating his tenacity and undying commitment to his art.

King Paluta, Joe Mettle, Ayisi, Empress Gifty, Kofi Kinaata, Esther Godwyll, KiDi, Tulenkey, and Team Eternity Ghana were among the other notable victors. Yaw Sarpong received a special Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Ghanaian gospel music. With its dazzling stage designs, energetic performances, and the best fashion in the nation, the TGMA26 event was a lively celebration of Ghanaian talent that brought together celebrities and fans for an evening of life-changing experiences.
