Following the untimely death of 21-year-old Yabane Deladem Aku, a Level 400 Biological Science student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, the Ghana Police Service has opened a thorough investigation.

The arrest of a suspect, Daniel Tuffour, has been confirmed by authorities. He is presently being held in police custody to aid with investigations.

The student’s lifeless body was found behind the Central Laboratory on campus early in the morning, according to an official police statement issued on Thursday, February 27, 2025, following preliminary investigations. When KNUST Hospital medical staff arrived on the scene, they declared her dead and took her remains to the hospital morgue for additional testing.

Suspicions about the circumstances surrounding her premature death were heightened when a police examination of the body revealed several signs of violence. Law enforcement stepped up their investigations as a result, and Daniel Tuffour was apprehended.

In a personal message to the grieving family, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) offered sympathies and reaffirmed that justice will be done. In order to discuss ways to improve campus security and guarantee the safety of employees and students, the IGP also convened with KNUST officials.

The public has been asked by the police to come forward and help with the continuing investigation, particularly if they have pertinent information. Authorities are still dedicated to learning the facts about this terrible event and making sure the people involved are held accountable.
