KNUST Student Murder: Police Retrieve Key Evidence as Prime Suspect Remanded

Significant progress has been made by the authorities looking into the terrible death of Joana Deladem Yabani, a student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The victim’s laptop and cell phone, which were concealed behind Flint Hostel on the university campus, were among the important pieces of evidence that police recently found.
CCTV footage from the hostel’s security surveillance system allowed for the retrieval of these important objects. The recovered objects are currently in police custody and are anticipated to offer crucial information to support the prosecution, according to a statement released on February 28, 2025 by the KNUST Office of the Registrar.
Daniel Tuffuor, a 21-year-old KNUST final-year student, has been taken into custody in relation to the alleged murder. Prosecutors asked that the defendant be placed under police custody until additional investigations after he was arraigned in the Prempeh District Court. The next hearing is scheduled on March 17, 2025, after the court granted the request.
The administration of KNUST has reassured the public and students that they are committed to improving campus security in the wake of the unfortunate occurrence. The institution conveyed gratitude to law enforcement and security officers for their prompt action in addressing the matter.
“The safety and well-being of our students remain our utmost priority. We are working on strengthening surveillance measures within and around the campus,” the statement read.
The administration of KNUST also asked the public, teachers, and students to maintain composure and let the judicial proceedings unfold. They acknowledged the profound sadness brought on by Joana’s premature passing and offered their sincere condolences to her family and friends.
Concerns regarding student safety on Ghanaian university campuses have been rekindled by the murder of Joana Deladem Yabani. To avoid such tragedies in the future, many have demanded more stringent security protocols, enhanced monitoring systems, and heightened law police presence.
The public expects more case updates as investigations proceed in the hopes that justice will be served.
