Popular Ghanaian Actor Koo Ofori Arrested for Alleged $50,000 Fraud Scheme Involving US-Based Investor

Famous Ghanaian comedian Samuel Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari, better known by his stage name Koo Ofori, was detained by the Accra Central Police Command and is currently at the heart of a significant fraud controversy. The actor is alleged by police to have defrauded a Ghanaian resident in the United States out of $50,000 by posing as a profitable investment opportunity. According to sources, the California-based alleged victim convinced Koo Ofori of a fictitious business endeavor and then transferred the funds to him. But according to reports, the actor broke his half of the bargain, so the victim took legal action. To make matters more worse, Koo Ofori allegedly fled after the victim made multiple attempts to recover the money.

The actor’s inability to repay the cash was confirmed by an investigation after the problem was properly reported to the police. A bench warrant for Koo Ofori’s arrest was also issued after he was asked to appear before the Dansoman District Court on April 17, 2025, but he did not show up. Koo Ofori was later caught and placed under arrest. Despite his scheduled court appearance on May 9, 2025, the court was not in session, therefore the proceedings were postponed. He will be in detention until the case is rescheduled on May 12, 2025.

The police have used this incident to remind the public to be cautious when engaging in large financial transactions, especially those based on informal agreements. Authorities stress the importance of due diligence and legal documentation to avoid falling prey to fraudsters, regardless of their public stature or fame.
