LATEST ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: Kuami Eugene Defends Himself Against Music Theft Allegations

Ghanaian Highlife star Kuami Eugene has addressed the ongoing accusations regarding his alleged practice of stealing or sampling music from other artists. In an interview on Hitz FM, the musician firmly rejected claims that he “steals” music, clarifying misconceptions about his creative process.
“I don’t steal music,” Kuami Eugene asserted, explaining that his artistic approach is inspired by a variety of sources. He emphasized that it is common for musicians to draw influences from different places while developing their unique sound. “Every artiste takes influences from different places,” he said, underscoring the collaborative nature of the music industry. He referenced legendary figures like Michael Jackson and popular Nigerian artists such as Davido and Wizkid to make his point, stating that borrowing lines or melodies is a standard practice in the industry. “There’s nothing wrong with taking a line or two and modifying it to fit my style,” Kuami Eugene confidently added, highlighting that professional musicians often create music by drawing from a wide range of inspirations.
Despite this, Kuami Eugene expressed frustration over the criticism he faces compared to other artists. “I feel like many artists can get away with it, but for me, it’s like every time I release a hit that includes a line reminiscent of another artist’s work, I’m criticized,” he remarked. He found this scrutiny disheartening, especially since he invests considerable effort in ensuring that his music remains original while still being inspired by various elements.
