Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan Make History as First All-Black Couple Winners of Love Island 2024

Love Island 2024: Mimii Ngulube & Josh Oyinsan's Historic Win

Love Island 2024, Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan have made history as the first all-black couple to win Love Island, taking the title in a nail-biting finale. Nearly a third of Sun readers had faith in their victory, but runners-up Ciaran and Nicole were the favorites before the finale aired.

Josh, who entered the villa two weeks ago with his sights set on Mimii, told Maya during their exit interview, “I told her when I met her, she surprised me, everything I expected her to be, she was and more. So I didn’t need to make other connections.” Many Love Island viewers believed Mimii carried the pair and was the true winner of the show.

Jaws dropped around the Majorca villa when Maya Jama announced Mimii and Josh had won after being coupled up for just two weeks. Mimii, 24, admitted her surprise, telling Maya, “I wasn’t expecting this,” and described feeling “overstimulated, overwhelmed, grateful.” The loved-up pair celebrated winning the £50k prize pot with a big kiss before mental health nurse Mimii broke down in tears.

Social media erupted with joy over their win. One viewer posted on X: “I promise I’m not crying, congratulations Mimii and Josh!!!! Yaay to black love!!!” Another wrote: “Guys!!! Mimii and Josh won! I’m not crying! First black couple to win Love Island UK!” A third added: “I’m actually crying, Mimii won my heart shem.”

Mimii and Josh beat villa favorites Ciaran Davies, 21, and Nicole Samuel, 24, as well as finalists Sean Stone and Matilda Draper, who came in third place, and Ayo Odukoya and Jess Spencer, who placed fourth. Mimii stayed faithful to semi-pro footballer Ayo while he pursued other connections in Casa Amor. When he returned with newcomer Jess, Mimii remained hopeful of rekindling their connection.

However, Mimii eventually coupled up with Josh after he arrived as a late bombshell and swept her off her feet. Before that, Mimii had been in an unrequited love triangle with original boy Ayo. She used the game Snog, Marry, Pie to “shoot her shot” and snogged Ayo in front of Josh. Later, viewers saw her plotting with Joey Essex to bring Ayo to the terrace for a final chat, delivering one of the most iconic moments of the series by crawling on the terrace to avoid being spotted by her co-stars.

When Ayo refused to meet her, Joey eventually revealed Mimii’s secret mission, causing plenty of drama in the villa. Mimii continued her journey with Josh, who has worked as Paul Pogba’s body double, and the couple became exclusive in the final week of the show.

The series closer comes a day after Joey and Jessy Potts missed out on a place in the final. They were given the chop in a brutal twist that saw dumped Islanders returning to the villa for one final vote to send a couple home before the finale.
