M3nsa Reveals: Pursuing Music in Ghana is a ‘Thankless’ Job

Ghanaian musician and filmmaker M3nsa has expressed his frustration with the lack of appreciation and recognition for artists within the Ghanaian music industry.

Ghanaian musician and filmmaker M3nsa has expressed his frustration with the lack of appreciation and recognition for artists within the Ghanaian music industry.

Speaking candidly in an interview on 3FM Drive on Wednesday, June 26, M3nsa highlighted the transient nature of support from the Ghanaian audience, which he described as both fleeting and inconsistent.

Drawing from his personal experiences, M3nsa recounted the challenges he encountered while crowdfunding for his album “BONDZIE.” He revealed that even close family members, who were well aware of his dedication to music, were reluctant to back his efforts.

“It’s a thankless job in a sense, of course it is. You know you get loved…even some family members were actually making me sell the idea to them.

I don’t need to sell the idea to you, you know what I do but you know we took up the challenge and some people came through and they made up for all the pushbacks and struggling,” M3nsa shared.

He emphasized that despite the evident talent and hard work of Ghanaian musicians, there is a pervasive lack of consistent support and genuine appreciation. This fleeting support can be disheartening for artists who pour their heart and soul into their craft, only to feel undervalued and overlooked when it matters most.

M3nsa’s comments shed light on the broader issues faced by many musicians in Ghana, who often struggle with financial stability and lack of sustained support from both their communities and the industry. His reflections serve as a call for greater acknowledgment and backing for the arts, ensuring that the contributions of musicians are valued and celebrated in a more enduring and meaningful way.
