Mahama Inspires Black Stars Before Crucial World Cup Clash
President Mahama Motivates Black Stars Ahead of Key World Cup Qualifiers

John Dramani Mahama, the former president, unexpectedly attended the Black Stars’ training session at the Accra Sports Stadium as they get ready for their pivotal 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar. After recent setbacks, his presence was intended to raise spirits and rekindle the team’s will to fight.
Recognizing the team’s recent struggles, including their failure to qualify for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Mahama expressed unwavering support. He reassured the players, stating, “We didn’t qualify for AFCON, and even when we did previously, we exited early. But we haven’t given up on you.”
The former president underlined that cooperation between the players, coaching staff, and management committee is essential to the Black Stars’ comeback. He exhorted them to preserve Ghana’s football heritage and dedicate themselves to excellence.
“We still believe the Black Stars can reclaim their glory. It all comes down to the dedication of the players, the technical team, and the management committee,” Mahama reiterated.
Mahama reminded the players of Ghanaians’ aspirations and their intense love for football. He emphasized the importance of dedication on the field and urged the team to perform with the same vigor they have in club football for the national team.
“The goals will come from you, and success requires sacrifice and strength. We admire your performances in club football, and we expect the same dedication for the national team,” he encouraged.
Before traveling to Morocco to play Madagascar on March 24, the Black Stars will play Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 21. Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup depend heavily on these games.
Players, coaches, and officials thanked Mahama for his visit and pledged to do their best and represent Ghana with pride.
