John Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for greater government investment in Ghana’s creative arts sector. Speaking to industry members on Friday, June 7, Mahama emphasized his commitment to revitalizing the sector should he be elected president in the upcoming elections.
In his address, Mahama acknowledged the numerous challenges facing the creative arts community and promised to work collaboratively to address them.
Reflecting on his previous tenure as President, he highlighted initiatives that were launched under his administration but have since stalled.
“We are going to find those solutions together,” Mahama assured the audience. “In the past, we tried to assist by providing cars to some of you, as many were struggling to get around. This initiative was intended to be rolled out in phases to protect your dignity and support your work.”
Mahama expressed disappointment that this program, among others, had not been continued by the current government, noting reports of some vehicles being seized. “Unfortunately, we left office, and the program has not been continued. It’s also unfortunate that some of the cars were taken back from you,” he remarked.
