Mahama Vows to Reclaim Illegally Acquired Wealth if Elected President
John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has made a bold promise to recover funds and assets acquired through corrupt practices if he wins the upcoming December 7 general elections.
In a live broadcast titled ‘Mahama Conversations,’ the former president pledged to work closely with relevant authorities and international partners to retrieve every Cedi stolen from Ghana’s coffers.
Mahama criticized the current Akufo-Addo administration for increasing instances of corruption and a blatant lack of fiscal discipline. He highlighted a notorious case involving former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, whose residence in Abelemkpe was found to contain over $1 million, allegedly stolen by her domestic staff.
This incident, according to Mahama, symbolizes the broader issue of corruption under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. “Despite the socio-economic challenges, we see the extravagant lifestyles of some NPP officials and their families,” Mahama stated. He pointed out the absurdity of government officials chartering private jets at exorbitant rates, while Ghana’s own Falcon Executive Jet remains underutilized. “The Minister for Defence mentioned that our Falcon Executive Jet lacked a shower for a presidential bath, which is hardly justifiable,” he remarked.

He urged the youth and all citizens to support his vision of reclaiming unlawfully acquired wealth, portraying it as a crucial step towards restoring integrity and fairness in Ghana’s governance.
As the election approaches, Mahama’s firm stance on combating corruption and reclaiming stolen assets is set to be a central theme of his campaign.
