Mahama’s Free Tertiary Tuition Policy would Repay First-Year Students who have Paid Fees
The Minister-Designate for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has revealed that, the free tertiary tuition policy would reimburse first year students who have paid tuition fees.

According to the Minister-Designate for Education, the government’s proposed free tuition policy will refund students who have already paid for their first year of tuition at tertiary institutions.
As promised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during its 2024 campaign, this initiative is a component of the larger plan to increase access to higher education.
During his vetting today, the Minister Designate for Education, Haruna Iddrisu elaborated how the policy will be funded and the execution plan to be put in place.
“The country will require about ₵345 million for the population of students who enter tertiary institutions, that is what the state will be required to do,” he explained.
The allocated funds will be directed to affected universities to ensure that students who have already settled their fees are not disadvantaged. “We intend to provide that money to the affected universities, at least, to make refunds to those who have already paid fees,” Mr. Iddrisu stated.
He further informed how flex the policy is to enable parents who choose to pay fees “The great thing about this is that parents who are prepared to pay can do so through this policy that the NDC has put in place,” he continued.
Reiterating his dedication to the program, Mr. Iddrisu pledged to see to its successful implementation.
