President Akufo-Addo has rebuked individuals casting doubt on the government’s developmental strides since he took office. Following his address at the commissioning of the Anwomaso Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant on Tuesday, April 17, the president called on Ghanaians to recognize and value his administration’s contributions to the nation’s progress.

“What I pray for is for God to open the eyes of our leaders who are not appreciating our developmental efforts, for them to see and appreciate our efforts,” the President noted

President Akufo-Addo disclosed that the construction of the thermal plant was entirely financed by the Volta River Authority (VRA).

“To top it all, VRA provided all the funds for the construction of this station, including land acquisition, permits and licences, preparation of environmental and social impact studies, civil works, electric mechanical works, and commissioning of the plant,” said President Akufo-Addo.

The African and Middle Eastern Resource Investment (AMERI) Company has formally transferred the 10-unit power plants to the Ghanaian government after completing the stipulated five-year “built, own, operate, and transfer” agreement. The Volta River Authority (VRA) opted to relocate the thermal power plants to their current site as part of measures to address the intermittent power supply in the Ashanti Region.

President Akufo-Addo also praised the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), and the Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC) for their contributions in ensuring the successful completion of this project.
