Former Abercrombie CEO Mike Jeffries and Partner Charged with International Sex Trafficking Operation
INTERNATIONAL NEWS: Ex-Abercrombie CEO Mike Jeffries and Partner Accused in Global Sex Trafficking Scandal

Mike Jeffries, the former CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, and his partner Matthew Smith have been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged international sex trafficking operation. Prosecutors accuse the couple of using their wealth, power, and influence to exploit vulnerable men, coercing them into engaging in sexual acts. James Jacobson, who is believed to have acted as the couple’s middleman, was also arrested. Jeffries was released on a $10 million bond, while Jacobson was granted a $500,000 bond. Smith remains in detention.
The charges stem from an investigation that began following media reports, particularly from the BBC, which uncovered allegations of abuse dating back to 2009. According to the investigation, Jeffries and Smith ran a prostitution and sex trafficking operation, recruiting men under false pretenses and exploiting them at events held in their New York home and other locations around the world.
Prosecutors claim that the men were misled about the nature of the events or coerced into participating. Some were told the events would be related to modeling opportunities with Abercrombie & Fitch, while others were pressured to perform sexual acts in exchange for money. The indictment alleges that Jeffries and Smith administered drugs, including Viagra and muscle relaxants, to incapacitate the men and force them to comply.
The lawsuit also implicates Abercrombie & Fitch, accusing the company of funding the operation during Jeffries’ two-decade tenure as CEO. Although Abercrombie has denied any knowledge of the trafficking scheme, the brand is currently facing legal action and has been ordered to cover Jeffries’ legal defense costs. Jeffries stepped down as CEO in 2014, leaving with a retirement package valued at $25 million. He and Smith have consistently denied the allegations. The next court hearing is set for Friday.
This story is a result of extensive investigative journalism by the BBC, which brought these shocking allegations to light. The FBI has since launched an investigation into the matter, which has now culminated in the arrests of Jeffries, Smith, and Jacobson.
