The Minority Caucus in Parliament has warned of a potential protest if the government does not clear the containers of essential medical supplies currently held at Tema Port.

These supplies, donated by the Global Fund, have been delayed despite a two-week ultimatum issued by Health Minister Bernard Okoe Boye to port officers. Boye has committed to personally overseeing the clearance if the deadline is missed.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Ranking Member on the Health Committee, emphasized that the Minority will persist in pushing for the prompt clearance of all medical supplies, noting that some containers remain uncleared after a year.

The Minority has reluctantly agreed to the Minister’s two-week request but insists that all containers must be cleared within this period.

Additionally, Akandoh urged the government to address the grievances of the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers’ Union to prevent an exodus of health workers seeking better opportunities abroad.
