Mohamed Diomande, a winger for Rangers, is in a unique situation as he is called up by both Ghana and Ivory Coast for their respective matches during the March international break. Diomande, who has shown great form at the club level this season, earns a spot in Ivory Coast’s U-23 squad for their upcoming match against France, while Ghana includes him in their roster for friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda. The 22-year-old midfielder must make a difficult decision regarding his national allegiance. Born in Yopougon, a suburb of Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Diomande is a full-fledged Ivorian citizen and has no family ties to Ghana.

But the most of his life has been spent in Ghana, where he attended the Right to Dream Academy from an early age and moved to Europe at the age of sixteen to join the Danish team Nordsjaelland.

It has been reported that he possesses a Ghanaian passport, which would qualify him to represent Ghana. Before selecting Diomande for the friendly matches, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is said to have carried out extensive due diligence on his eligibility, ensuring that he would be free to represent Ghana in future fixtures.

Nevertheless, Diomande still has the choice to play for Ivory Coast in the future if he so chooses, as the forthcoming matches against Ghana are not competitive contests.

Diomande has the final say in the matter. Will he decide to wear the Ghanaian shirt immediately at the senior level, or will he want to represent his home nation at the U-23 level while waiting for a senior call-up? Time will tell what he decided to do.
