On Thursday, May 15, 2025, Ghana’s Minister of the Interior, Hon. Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, met Her Excellency Virginia Palmer, the departing US Ambassador to Ghana, at his office in Accra in a symbolic event that demonstrated the depth of diplomatic ties between Ghana and the United States. The visit concluded Ambassador Palmer’s diplomatic assignment in Ghana and was a part of her official goodbye tour.
The high-level meeting’s main objectives were to assess the achievements made under Ambassador Palmer’s leadership and talk about potential future directions for strengthening the two countries’ collaboration. Mutually beneficial topics like security, governance, peacebuilding, and institutional capacity building were given special attention.
Hon. Muntaka Mubarak used the occasion to praise Ambassador Palmer for her commitment and exceptional contributions to the advancement of Ghana and the fortification of bilateral relations. He acknowledged her contribution to strengthening cooperation between U.S. agencies and the Interior Ministry, especially in the areas of counterterrorism, security cooperation, and civic governance.
“Ambassador Palmer has been a trusted partner and a driving force behind several initiatives that have benefited our national security and governance structures. Her leadership has left a lasting impact on our collaborative efforts,” he said.
Ambassador Palmer, who was clearly grateful, thanked the Ghanaian government for the friendly relationship and assistance she has received during her leadership. Even after her departure, she reiterated the US commitment to upholding solid diplomatic and developmental ties with Ghana.
“It has been a profound honour to serve in Ghana. I am proud of the progress we’ve made together and confident that our two nations will continue to work closely to achieve shared goals,” she stated.
