Nana Agradaa Backs Sammy Gyamfi’s Dollar Gift as Divine
Nana Agradaa Defends Sammy Gyamfi’s Dollar Gift, Urges NDC Supporters to Embrace ‘Divine Blessings’

In the midst of a contentious public debate, controversial preacher Patricia Asiedua, better known by her stage name Nana Agradaa, has come up to defend Sammy Gyamfi’s act of giving her US dollars. Agradaa addressed the response in a widely shared video, dismissing criticism from National Democratic Congress (NDC) members and calling for party followers to take a spiritual stance, calling the situation “blown out of proportion.” According to the founder of Heaven Way Champion International Ministry, the sum in question was only $800, making it unimportant and unworthy of the controversy it has caused. She urged supporters of the NDC to draw on what she referred to as “her blessings” rather than feeling envious of the gesture.
“How much is $800? Why are people angry over such a small amount?” she questioned. “The Bible says you should not covet your neighbour’s blessings. Instead, learn to tap into it.”
Her comments come after a video surfaced showing Sammy Gyamfi, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), handing her the money in public. The footage sparked criticism from both the public and political figures, including former MP Ras Mubarak, who warned that such displays could damage public confidence in the cedi and reflect poorly on Ghana’s foreign exchange discipline.
In her defense of Gyamfi, Agradaa stated, “If Mama Pat has received a blessing from him, party supporters should rather pray for similar blessings.” She further cautioned that criticizing good deeds could invite misfortune, warning, “If you condemn someone’s blessings, don’t be surprised if your own are blocked.”
In response to the controversy, Sammy Gyamfi issued a public apology, explaining that his action was a simple act of generosity, rooted in his personal values of supporting others in need. He emphasized that the moment was intended to be private and expressed regret that it had gone viral. “To those sincerely hurt, I am deeply sorry for the misunderstanding caused by this act of indiscretion,” he said.
Notwithstanding the controversy, Gyamfi declared his unwavering confidence in public service as a tool for advancing mankind and reiterated his dedication to serving the people with honor. Since officials’ public usage of foreign currency weakens efforts to stabilize the local currency and comply with financial regulations, the incident has rekindled fears about Ghana’s economy becoming more dollarized.
