NDC Raises Concern Over Transfer of Electoral Commissioner from Effutu
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effutu constituency has expressed concerns regarding the sudden transfer of the Electoral Commissioner, Madam Emelia Ama Akotiah, just days before the conclusion of the limited registration exercise.
The NDC suspects potential manipulation behind this move. During a press conference, James Kofi Annan, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Effutu, highlighted that despite allegations of voter manipulation in the 2020 elections and dissatisfaction with the Commissioner’s performance, her recent transfer seems to be driven by her attempts to rectify these issues and prevent future irregularities ahead of the December 7 polls.
Annan questioned the timing of the transfer, noting the disruption it could cause amid the ongoing registration exercise and upcoming transfer processes. He criticized the decision to transfer the Commissioner immediately, especially after critical preparatory meetings for the elections had already taken place.
“The letter arrived over the weekend, and she is scheduled to leave for Ho this week. This raises our doubts about the Electoral Commission’s motives. We have heard she had an altercation with elements within the NPP’s leadership,” Annan stated.
