NDC Secures Victory in Ayawaso Central as Abdul Rauf Tubazu Defeats Henry Quartey

In a significant win for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu has emerged victorious in the 2024 parliamentary elections for Ayawaso Central. Tubazu unseated incumbent Henry Quartey of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with a total of 29,755 votes, surpassing Quartey’s 23,345 votes. Charles Kwame Adams of the National Democratic Party (NDP) managed only 163 votes in the contest. Out of the 53,550 total votes cast, 287 ballots were declared invalid.
This win marks a critical shift in the Ayawaso Central constituency, traditionally a stronghold for the NPP, and adds to the NDC’s momentum in the 2024 elections. The party has successfully flipped key constituencies, including Mpohor and Sekondi, further strengthening its parliamentary representation.
In Mpohor, the NDC’s Henry Godfred Bentil defeated incumbent John Kobina Abbam Aboah Sanie, securing 11,680 votes compared to Sanie’s 8,299. Similarly, in Sekondi, Blay Nyameke Armah of the NDC ousted Andrew Egyapa Mercer with 14,558 votes (56.40%), while Mercer trailed with 11,084 votes (42.94%). A total of 25,813 votes were cast in Sekondi, with 171 ballots rejected.
These victories underline the NDC’s growing influence in constituencies that have long been NPP bastions. With the Ayawaso Central triumph, the party’s momentum heading into the remainder of the election cycle could be pivotal in reshaping Ghana’s political landscape. The outcome signals a shift in voter dynamics and presents the NDC with opportunities to implement its vision for governance.
