Naa Koryoo’s detention, which occurred following a police invitation, provoked a strong reaction from the NDC. Sympathizers gathered at the station, demanding her immediate release.

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, sharply criticized the detention, warning that such actions could inflame political tensions. He called on authorities to uphold justice as a fundamental element of national peace and stability.

In his statement, Mahama emphasized the importance of justice, stating, “Justice is not just a moral imperative but a crucial prerequisite for maintaining peace and stability in a nation.” His call for Naa Koryoo’s release was echoed by other NDC leaders. Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer for the NDC, also condemned the detention, alleging that it was orchestrated by the leadership of the Ghana Police Service under the influence of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). He described the arrest as politically motivated.

Delali Sewarkpor, Naa Koryoo’s assistant, similarly criticized the detention as an act of political persecution orchestrated by elements within the NPP.

Following intense pressure from the NDC leadership, Naa Koryoo was released around 11:30 am on Saturday, June 8. Her supporters, who had gathered at the Cantonments Police Station, were seen celebrating her release shortly after noon.
