Niger Political Unrest: Military Junta Promises To Return To Civil Rule In 3 Years

Niger Political Unrest: Niger’s coup superintendent has vowed to return the West African nation to constitutional rule within three years.

Gen Abdourahamane Tchiaani made this statement after meeting mediators from the West African regional bloc Ecowas in the capital, Niamey.

Ecowas intended to resort to military action to turn over last month’s overthrow of President Mohamed Bazoum if dialogues prove futile.

The junta head mentioned that Niger did not want a war but would fend itself against any foreign intrusion.
