“Alex Iwobi shares disappointment as Black Stars exit AFCON. Nigerian football star’s candid reaction to Ghana’s elimination. Read now.”

Nigerian footballer Alex Iwobi has criticized Ghana’s elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing it as “shameful”.

Despite high expectations to improve upon their disappointing performance in the 2021 AFCON, the Black Stars once again failed to impress.

Ghana entered the tournament with hopes of redemption after their lackluster performance in the previous edition but fell short yet again. Despite being led by talented players such as Inaki Williams, Mohammed Kudus, and Jordan Ayew, the team failed to meet expectations and was eliminated early.

Iwobi expressed his disappointment at Ghana’s elimination, acknowledging the rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana that extends beyond sports and music, including the infamous Jollof dispute. He emphasized his respect for Ghanaian players and his desire for them to succeed, but lamented their premature exit from the competition.

“There’s a lot of rivalry between us two, there’s a lot of people that I respect in Ghana, so, like I would like them to do well. I have a lot of friends outside the team that are Ghanaians, so it’s like you want them to do well so you can play against them and prove a point in the competition. But it’s a shame, because the way they exited with the sort of players they had was a bit sad to see. And obviously, because we were in the same hotel, we can see how devastated they were,” he said.
