Nine (9) people have been detained by the Ghana Police Service nationwide for spreading fake information about the supposed disappearance of their genitalia, which incited attacks on defenceless civilians and spread fear and panic among the populace.
The Police stated in a brief statement that all of the claims were untrue after conducting investigations and medical exams.
For making such fictitious allegations of missing genitals, six people have been arrested in Kasoa, in the Central Region; two in Ashaiman, in the Greater Accra Region; and one in Nkawkaw, in the Eastern Region.
Three (3) of the five (5) people who were arraigned in court were remanded into police custody, while two were given bail. The Police claim that the remaining individuals are out on Police inquiry bail and will be formally charged in court shortly.Concerns were also voiced by the Ghana Police Service regarding the growing practice of people fabricating stories about their genitalia disappearing and blaming innocent onlookers, which can occasionally spark mob violence.
