November 8 Is Not a Public Holiday – Ministry of Interior
No Public Holiday on November 8: Interior Ministry Sets the Record Straight

The Ministry of Interior has officially clarified that Friday, November 8, 2024, will not be observed as a public holiday. This announcement follows widespread rumors on social media suggesting that the day would be designated as a holiday due to the upcoming National Farmer’s Day celebration.
Traditionally, Ghana’s Farmer’s Day is celebrated on the first Friday in December. However, in 2024, the government rescheduled the event to November 8 to avoid a conflict with the General Elections set for December. This change in the date of the Farmer’s Day event led to speculation that November 8 would automatically become a public holiday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 5, the Ministry of Interior emphasized that while the Farmer’s Day celebration will take place on November 8 this year, that day will remain a regular working day. As such, government offices, businesses, and schools are expected to operate as usual.
The Ministry also noted that December 6, 2024, will still be observed as the official Farmer’s Day public holiday, despite the earlier celebration. As stipulated by law, December 6 will remain a holiday to honor Ghana’s farmers, even though the formal events recognizing their contributions will already have occurred in November.
