The Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees’ Association (GNMTA) has voiced significant concerns regarding the delay in the disbursement of allowances to trainee nurses and midwives, despite previous assurances from the government.
In a statement issued on June 25, the GNMTA acknowledged partial payments to some trainees. However, they highlighted that the 2022 batch and other cohorts, including those from 2017 to 2023, have not received their promised allowances.
This delay, the association notes, is causing severe financial strain and demoralization among trainees who depend on these funds for their daily sustenance and academic needs.
The reinstatement of these allowances was intended to support trainees during their critical training period. The GNMTA is calling on the Ministry of Health and the government to address these delays urgently and fulfill their commitment to the trainees.
The association urges Ghanaians to support their cause, emphasizing the importance of timely allowance payments for the future of Ghana’s healthcare system.
