Ghana Freedom Party Names Roman Fada as 2024 Presidential Candidate Following Akua Donkor’s Death

Philip Kwabena Agyemang, widely known as Roman Fada, a broadcaster with Peace FM, has officially been named the new presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP). His nomination follows the passing of GFP’s founder and former presidential candidate, Madam Akua Donkor.
The GFP has formally filed Roman Fada’s candidacy with the Electoral Commission, marking his transition from his previous role as Akua Donkor’s vice-presidential running mate. This filing, completed on Tuesday afternoon, solidifies Roman Fada’s position as the party’s standard-bearer in the upcoming elections.
Earlier reports indicated that the GFP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) submitted a letter to the Electoral Commission on November 5, 2024, addressing their intentions for the election following Akua Donkor’s passing. The NEC initially considered withdrawing from the December 7 election due to the loss of their leader, who died on October 28 at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
The Electoral Commission had provided the GFP with a deadline of December 8, 2024, to nominate a replacement for their presidential candidate. By filing Roman Fada’s nomination, the GFP confirms its commitment to participating in the upcoming election, with Roman Fada now leading the party forward as its new presidential candidate.
