Pitch Invader at Ghana-Chad Match, Mohammed Huzeinu gets 100-Day Jail Sentence

An Accra District Court sentenced 21-year-old Mohammed Huzeinu to 100 days in prison for entering the field during Ghana’s World Cup qualifying match against Chad on March 21, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium. The game was briefly interrupted as Huzeinu charged the field to try to embrace Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo. Before he could be arrested at the Ministries Police Station, security guards quickly stepped in and escorted him from the field.

In addition to interfering with play, his activities endangered costly fines from international football regulating bodies for the Ghana Football Association (GFA). At least $10,000 in fines had already been imposed for previous instances of pitch invasions during Ghana’s AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and Angola.

The GFA has reaffirmed its firm opposition to these interruptions and emphasized the necessity of rigorous compliance with match-day rules in order to stop additional security lapses. This most recent incident, which is the fifth pitch invasion at a Black Stars game in the previous five years, contributes to the mounting worry over stadium security. In order to prevent future disruptions of this kind and to preserve Ghana’s standing in international football, authorities hope that Huzeinu’s sentence will act as a deterrent.

Both football fans and commentators have demanded more security at stadiums and urged officials to police the rules more strictly in order to guarantee live matches and prevent needless fines that can affect Ghanaian football. In Ghana, the issue has generated a lot of conversation regarding sports security, with many people calling on the GFA and law enforcement to cooperate in order to stop future violations. Authorities want to keep future games disciplined in order to preserve the sport’s integrity and protect the experience of both players and spectators, especially while Ghana’s qualification campaign is still in progress.
