The Ghana Police Service announced the arrest of six individuals accused of orchestrating the kidnapping of a Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC) student in Accra.

According to a press release dated April 5, the group comprises four juvenile PRESEC Legon students and two adults, Isaac Kissi Adjei (alias Kofi Black) and Courage Teiko (alias Timmy). This development follows recent viral reports of the student’s abduction while returning home from school.

The reports suggested that the kidnappers demanded a ransom from the student’s family, threatening to sell his organs if the payment wasn’t made.

However, the police said that their preliminary investigation revealed that the kidnapping was the alleged victim’s attempt to extort money from his parents.

The young boy, according to the police, had planned to travel abroad with the money and thus conspired with the others to stage the kidnapping incident.

“In the process, they demanded an amount of Three Hundred and Forty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵340,000.00) as ransom from the alleged victim’s parents,” parts of the statement read.

“The Investigation further disclosed that the juveniles together with the two others succeeded in collecting an amount of Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵20,000.00) of the total ransom demanded,” they added.

The police said they informed the parents and guardians of the students while investigation continues.
