Police Hospital Plans Mass Burial for Unclaimed Bodies Feb 28
Police Hospital to Conduct Mass Burial for Unclaimed Bodies on February 28

About 200 unclaimed bodies have been kept in the Ghanaian Police Hospital’s mortuary, and the hospital has declared intentions to bury them all in a mass funeral. The burial, which is set for February 28, 2025, intends to enhance the hospital’s mortuary facilities and relieve overcrowding. In order to identify and claim any deceased family members before the deadline, relatives of missing persons are encouraged to get in touch with the hospital’s pathology department. The unclaimed dead will be buried in a mass burial after this date.
Similar steps are being taken by other hospitals around the nation to alleviate the overcrowding in their morgues. Seven unclaimed bodies that have been at the Police Hospital’s morgue for more than 20 months are scheduled to be buried in the Western Region at Bogoso. Because of the growing number of unclaimed dead in its morgue, Tema General Hospital has also scheduled a mass burial. The public has been asked by the Police Hospital to help spread the word about the impending mass burial. People are urged to act right now to stop their loved ones from being buried if they may have family members in the hospital’s care.
Mass burials have become a necessary step for many hospitals in Ghana, where morgues are often overcrowded due to the high number of unclaimed bodies.
