Presidency Quashes Agradaa Dollar Case, Warns Sammy Gyamfi

The recent dispute surrounding Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, and his widely reported financial gift to evangelist Patricia Asiedua, also known as Nana Agradaa, has been officially resolved by the Ghanaian Presidency. Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu revealed during a press briefing on Wednesday, May 14, that Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff, has fully addressed the matter.

The Presidency has therefore determined that Mr. Gyamfi will not face any additional disciplinary actions beyond a formal warning and his public apology. Mr. Kwakye Ofosu claims that the Chief of Staff took Mr. Gyamfi’s apologies seriously and proceeded to exercise care.

He underlined that the warning served as a reminder to Mr. Gyamfi to constantly be aware of what the public expects of him and to act in a way that demonstrates the integrity expected of those holding public office.“The Chief of Staff cautioned him and impressed upon him to consider the sentiments of the public and act in ways that mirror what Ghanaians expect from those in public service,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated.

The incident, which stirred widespread public debate, stemmed from a viral video that showed Sammy Gyamfi handing over a cash gift to Nana Agradaa, raising concerns about propriety and ethical behavior in government-related roles. Addressing these concerns, the government spokesperson underscored the importance of holding public officials to high moral standards, even in their private engagements. “Public officials must always be sensitive to the expectations of Ghanaians,” he asserted.

Furthermore, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu reassured the public of the government’s ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability, adding that constructive feedback from citizens remains a valuable part of governance. “We value feedback and are fully aware that Ghanaians hold us to high standards in delivering our duties,” he concluded.

This announcement marks the formal closure of the incident from the government’s standpoint, signaling a renewed emphasis on ethical conduct within public offices.
