President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to good governance, accountability, and a lean government as he swore in six new ministers at the Jubilee House today.

The President informed that his administration will not tolerate arrogance or disrespect towards Ghanaians, bolstering the government’s responsibility to serve with humility and integrity.

At the swearing-in ceremony, President Mahama reaffirmed the need for transparency and prudence in governance. He emphasized that his government is committed to upholding high ethical standards and ensuring that public trust is maintained.

“As I pointed out during my inaugural speech, Ghanaians have, through their votes, declared their intention to demand the highest standards of governance, and we cannot afford to fail them,” the President stated. He encouraged his appointees to exhibit tolerance for diverse views and work towards the aspirations of the people.

The six ministers sworn into office on January 21, 2025, are:

  • Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson – Minister for Finance
  • Dr. Dominic Ayine – Attorney General and Minister for Justice
  • John Jinapor – Minister for Energy and Green Transition
  • Haruna Iddrisu – Minister for Education
  • Eric Opoku – Minister for Food and Agriculture
  • Governs Kwame Agbodza – Minister for Roads and Highways

President Mahama also mentioned his administration’s dedication to keeping the number of government ministers at 60. He confirmed that not all ministries would have deputy ministers, a decision aimed at reducing government expenditure and ensuring efficiency.

“As the ministers are approved by Parliament and sworn in, I will proceed to name deputy ministers for some of the ministries, which will bring the total of ministers to 60, as I promised the people of Ghana. This will make our government the leanest and, I believe, the most efficient in Ghana’s history,” he stated.

The decision follows his earlier move on January 9, 2025, to reduce the number of ministries from 29 to 23 as part of a broader civil service restructuring initiative.

As President Mahama and his cabinet embark on this new governance journey, Ghanaians remain hopeful that the administration will fulfill its promises of transparency, efficiency, and inclusive development.
