Proposed Changes to BECE Format and Education System in Ghana

In an interview on Citi FM’s Citi Breakfast Show with Bernard Avle, Mr. Kapi assured that WAEC has taken measures to maintain the integrity of the ongoing BECE.
Mr. Kapi highlighted ongoing discussions about potentially altering the exam structure to align with Ghana’s growing population and workforce requirements. He emphasized the flexibility to adapt the exam format accordingly.
Additionally, plans are underway to introduce a Free SHS bill aimed at replacing BECE with SHS certification as the primary entry requirement for secondary education. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, explaining the bill, emphasized its goal to integrate JHS into a unified six-year secondary education framework. This restructuring aims to ensure a seamless educational pathway and promote co-location of JHS and SHS students on school campuses.
