Grammy-Winning Rapper Lil Durk Arrested in Shocking Murder-for-Hire Allegation

Lil Durk, the Grammy Award-winning rapper, was taken into custody in Broward County, Florida, on Thursday night on charges related to an alleged murder-for-hire scheme. The 33-year-old artist, whose real name is Durk Devontay Banks, is reportedly being held without bail following his arrest, according to CBS News and other U.S. media sources.

The arrest happened just a day after five associates connected to Lil Durk’s hip-hop collective, Only The Family (OTF), were charged in Chicago. These charges involve a 2022 shooting that took the life of Saviay’a Robinson, the cousin of rival rapper Quando Rondo.

Reports indicate that officials allege these five men were involved in organizing the Los Angeles shooting as retaliation for the 2020 death of emerging rapper King Von, who was an OTF member. Quando Rondo’s friend faced charges for Von’s murder at one time, though these charges were eventually dropped. Rondo was never arrested or charged in the incident. Reports also suggest that an unnamed OTF member allegedly offered monetary incentives and potential music deals to those willing to participate in the attack on Rondo. In 2022, some of the charged individuals allegedly fired shots at a vehicle carrying Quando Rondo, his sister, and Robinson, resulting in Robinson’s death.

Lil Durk’s impact on the hip-hop scene has been significant. Since founding OTF in 2010, he has played a major role in Chicago’s drill rap movement, achieved six top-five Billboard album placements since 2019, and earned four Grammy nominations. Earlier this year, he won a Grammy for “All My Life” featuring J Cole.

These recent charges follow other legal troubles for Lil Durk. In 2019, he was accused of attempted murder in connection to a shooting in Atlanta, though those charges were later dropped. Just this month, the mother of another Chicago rapper, FBG Duck, filed a lawsuit implicating Lil Durk, OTF, and King Von in Duck’s 2020 murder.
