Rent Control Launches Digital Platform to Address Loopholes in Ghana’s Rental System

The Rent Control Department of Ghana has introduced a digital platform aimed at addressing inefficiencies in the traditional rental service system. The platform, accessible at [rentcontrol.mwh.gov.gh](http://rentcontrol.mwh.gov.gh), enables landlords and tenants to complete essential tasks online, such as registering properties, filing complaints, and resolving disputes, eliminating the need for in-person visits to Rent Control offices.

One of the platform’s standout features is the ability to digitally sign tenancy agreements, streamlining processes and reducing reliance on physical paperwork. This development is expected to enhance time efficiency while providing secure and transparent record-keeping. The platform will also host online advertisements for rental properties, allowing tenants to find accommodation more easily without intermediaries such as agents.

Speaking at the platform’s launch, Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, emphasized that this digital initiative reflects a commitment to efficiency, transparency, and inclusivity. “Today, we celebrate more than just a technological advancement; we are inaugurating a transformative leap in how public services are delivered in Ghana,” he said. The platform is currently operational in 15 offices across 11 regions, and there are plans to extend it nationwide, offering benefits to all Ghanaians.

Chief Rent Manager, Twum Ampofo, hailed the platform as a “defining moment” for the department. He noted that it resolves many of the delays caused by the previous manual system and makes the Rent Control Department’s services more accessible, especially to those in remote areas. Mr. Ampofo urged the public to embrace the new system, highlighting its role in promoting fairer, more efficient, and accessible rental services.

Rev. Stephen Yaw Osei, Chief Director of the Ministry of Works and Housing, stressed the platform’s importance in ensuring compliance with rental regulations, enhancing transparency, and curbing landlord exploitation. He expressed confidence that the platform would lead to quicker dispute resolution and provide easier access to rental information.
