Rev. Dr. Mensa Otabil Urges Tough Laws for Growth
Rev. Dr. Mensa Otabil Calls for Strict Law Enforcement to Drive National Development

The International Central Gospel Church’s General Overseer and Central University Chancellor, Rev. Dr. Mensa Otabil, has underlined the critical necessity for strong law enforcement in order to promote national development.
Speaking during the Central University Institutional Lecture at the Miotso Campus in Tema, Dr. Otabil emphasized the importance of accountability and discipline in forming a forward-thinking society.
Dr. Otabil emphasized in his talk, “How to Bring About Change in Africa – Some Fundamental Considerations,” that a nation can only achieve sustained progress if its laws are strictly upheld. Key areas that need strict legal measures to speed development include sanitation, mining laws, environmental protection, and forest conservation, he noted. Dr. Otabil urged the government and relevant stakeholders to commit to enforcing statutory laws to build a better society where individuals act responsibly. He noted that development is only achievable when citizens develop a consciousness to act intentionally and purposefully.
“Until people cultivate a sense of responsibility and accountability, progress will be slow. When people are aware of the consequences of their actions and commit to doing the right thing, the nation will thrive,” he stated.
Addressing Africa’s Challenges Through Leadership and Strategy
Dr. Otabil acknowledged the pressing challenges facing Africa and called for visionary leadership that embraces innovative and bold solutions. He proposed a cultural shift towards precision, accuracy, and strategic planning, ensuring that current generations prioritize future generations’ well-being.
“We must instill a future-oriented mindset, where each generation is dedicated to safeguarding the next. Sustainable development depends on how well we plan for those who come after us,” he added.
A Platform for Intellectual Engagement
The significance of the Institutional Lecture series was underlined by Professor Bill B. Puplampu, the Vice-Chancellor of Central University and the event’s chair. He clarified that the platform promotes intellectual development and policy-oriented solutions by enabling staff, academics, and students to participate in critical conversations on domestic and international concerns.
Discussions about how Ghana and the African continent may adopt efficient governance and law enforcement tactics to achieve sustainable development were sparked by the audience’s response to Rev. Dr. Mensa Otabil’s talk.
