Sammy Gyamfi Meets Chief of Staff Over Viral Dollar Gift to Nana Agradaa Amid Public Outcry

The Ghana Gold Board’s acting CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, met with the chief of staff at Jubilee House after a video went viral on social media that showed him giving money to controversial preacher Nana Agradaa, also known as Patricia Asiedua Asiamah. The video, which went viral over the weekend, showed Gyamfi giving Agradaa what looked to be a sizable quantity of money, purportedly in US dollars, which sparked a fierce public outcry and demands for accountability.

Gyamfi and Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff, met behind closed doors on Monday, May 12, 2025, according to sources close to the Presidency. Clarifying the circumstances around the cash transaction and addressing the public’s rising worries about possible wrongdoing and conflict of interest are thought to have been the main goals of the session, albeit the specifics of their conversation are still classified.

Both the general public and civil society organizations have criticized the occurrence; some have called for Gyamfi to be suspended and the matter looked into. To preserve the integrity of his administration, President John Mahama has been encouraged to act quickly by a number of opposition voices and political commentators. Notably, the Chief of Staff is anticipated to provide President Mahama with a thorough report when he returns from his current attendance at the African Union Debt Conference in Lomé, Togo.

Nana Agradaa, meantime, has publicly defended Sammy Gyamfi, asserting that the sum in question was merely $800 and characterizing the present as an innocuous gesture. Despite her statements, there are still concerns over the money’s origin and the transaction’s suitability, particularly in light of Gyamfi’s position in a delicate state-owned organization. The matter is still being closely watched as people want the government to be transparent and take decisive action.
