New release: Stars to Return for First Shrek Film in 16 Years


DreamWorks Animation has confirmed that “Shrek 5” is set for release on July 1, 2026, marking the franchise’s return after 16 years. Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz will reprise their roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Princess Fiona, respectively.

Exciting news for Shrek fans! The beloved green ogre and his friends are coming back to the big screen, and the original cast is reuniting for the first Shrek film in 16 years. While the plotline is still under wraps, anticipation is high for this new chapter in the beloved series.

The original “Shrek” film, released in 2001, was a massive hit, grossing $487 million worldwide and winning the first Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The franchise continued with several successful sequels: “Shrek 2” (2004), “Shrek the Third” (2007), and “Shrek Forever After” (2010). Antonio Banderas’ character, Puss in Boots, was so popular that he even got two spin-off films.

Fans are eagerly speculating whether Banderas will return for “Shrek 5”. Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy recently dropped an exciting hint that a spin-off movie for Donkey might be in the works. He revealed that he had already started recording for “Shrek 5” and expects to finish this year.
