STARLINK WILL BE LICENCED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO OPERATE IN GHANA – URSULA OWUSU

Ursula Owusu, the Minister of Communications, informed the parliament that in order to address the disruption of internet services in the nation, the government is launching a scheme to licence more satellite internet service providers.

She said that the international satellite internet service provider Starlink is currently obtaining a licence to conduct business in Ghana.

Speaking to Parliament about the problem of internet outages, Ursula Owusu stated that it will require at least five weeks to repair the underwater lines that are causing the outage.

“Starlink is in the process of being licensed. And other operators are being encouraged to land in Ghana. We must also invest in operationalizing RASCOM (Regional African Satellite Company) instead of each country going at it alone.

“All network operators must arrange and implement alternate routes to restore phone services as they’re currently doing,” Communications and Digitalisation Minister, Ursula Owusu disclosed to MPs in Parliament on Monday.
