Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry has agreed to a one-year contract extension worth $62.6 million, as confirmed by his agent Jeff Austin of Octagon to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The new deal ensures Curry remains with the Warriors through the 2026-27 season, further solidifying his legacy with the team. By the end of his career, Curry will join LeBron James and Kevin Durant as one of the few NBA players to surpass $500 million in career earnings.
In a previous interview with Andscape, Curry expressed his commitment to the Warriors, stating, “I’ve always said I want to be a Warrior for life,” and he believes that is still achievable at this stage of his career. At 36 years old, Curry’s latest extension was limited to one year due to the NBA’s over-38 rule, which restricts long-term contracts for players nearing or surpassing the age of 38.
Curry’s current contract, a four-year deal worth $215.4 million, was signed in August 2021. The extension speaks to his desire to retire with the Warriors, the franchise he’s played for since entering the league. However, Curry has also emphasized the importance of staying on a competitive team, making it clear that he wouldn’t want to remain with a franchise stuck in a rebuilding phase. Fortunately for Curry, the Warriors are still contenders, and he is optimistic about continuing his career with a team striving for success.
