Tamale Cop Suspended for Possessing Banned Drugs

General Lance Corporal Shani Abdullai has been formally placed under interdiction by the Ghana Police Service after it was alleged that he was in possession of a forbidden medicinal drug. Kpalsi, a suburb of Tamale in Ghana’s Northern Region, is where the arrest and the interdiction took place. The Ghana Police said in an official statement that the interdiction is a procedural action meant to enable a thorough and objective investigation into the suspected misbehavior. The Police Administration stressed that this measure is in accordance with the internal policies and disciplinary procedures that regulate employees’ behavior inside the Service.

The public was reassured in the statement of the Police Service’s dedication to upholding high standards of professionalism, honesty, and responsibility among its members. It further emphasized that no officer will be exempt from proper disciplinary or legal repercussions if they are proven to have violated the law or professional ethics.

The public’s criticism of the Ghana Police Service’s internal disciplinary procedures and accountability has grown recently. This most recent development is seen as a component of the Service’s larger endeavor to bolster public trust and show that wrongdoing among its ranks is not tolerated.

The details of the banned medicinal product that was discovered in the officer’s possession have not yet been made public, but as the investigation progresses, it is anticipated that the problem will be handled urgently. Depending on the investigation’s findings, law enforcement officials have not ruled out the possibility of filing criminal charges.

Although they expressed worry, Tamale residents and civil society organizations praised the police leadership’s prompt action in resolving the matter. The public has been asked by the Police Administration to maintain composure and let the investigation run smoothly.
