After a review of payroll systems in the Northern Region, which included the hospital and educational institutions under the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) raised concerns about irregularities such as unauthorized and inactive validation resulting in payments to ghost employees.

In a response during a Citi News interview on Wednesday, Aliu Zuberu, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, said the institution was unaware of the findings but committed to ensuring transparency. “We disagree with the information being circulated. Although we have not received formal communication from the OSP, we only saw a document online,” he stated.

The Tamale Teaching Hospital has denied allegations of disbursing salaries to nonexistent employees. Following a review of payroll systems in the Northern Region by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD), concerns were raised about irregularities, including unauthorized and inactive validations leading to payments to ghost employees.

In a Citi News interview, Aliu Zuberu, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the hospital takes these issues seriously and is conducting an internal review. “We need to run through our system to verify these claims and ensure that no ghost names are present and that all validated employees are legitimate and active on our payroll. Although we haven’t received formal communication from the OSP, we are assessing the situation based on the circulated document and will respond appropriately,” he stated.
